Senior Studio 2 Artist Statement

I'm Dezmond Gipson. A digital media artist focusing on film and animation. I have always considered time based media to be the ltimate form of art. The rise of youtube.com and newgrounds brought to my attention that breaking into the scene of film and animtion is possible for anyone. My goal as a film maker is to create experiences. I want my viewers to have fun, feel emotions, get lost in the art, and believe that without a doubt there is a possibility in the tv magic.

In my film Grow Up, you witness a boy aging from infancy to a young adult through his room and the item that he considers dear to him. The story is told throgh props alone, so no characters. I want viewers to feel connected to the character. I want them to believe that if it were possible to see there own childhood room in such a way that they could compare themselves to him. They will know the true character that lives in that room and would be begging to know what he looks like

Internship Meeting

I really like how Carrie Brooks is being very close to us and our internship this semester. I guess it is so we get exactly what we want from or internship, because I know a lot of us were disappointed with out internship before, but I am not a fan about how much random sheets she wants us to fill out. Instead of straight up asking us what we want we have to fill out a form about that. A little elementary in my opinion.

Career Fair

Career Fair was dope. I feel again a lot of employer wanted me to be graduating. I most of them were asking for full time, but I'm glad that I got my name in their mouths already. I feel like I could have been for straight forward with what I wanted from each person that talked to me. I kind of just let them talk to me. I think I'm at the point were I can make sure I get what I want from each opportunity, but for most of them anyway I have to wait until I can work Full Time.

First Script

Int.House - Empty Bed ROom - Day
The camera views through a window we and see the front lawn with a realtor sign sticking out of it's grass, and an empty drive way.
In an instant the sign is gone and in the next a moving truck now occupies the space in the drive way.
The camera eases left and backwards slowly to reveal more of the interior. Before the the exterior is out of sight we see the moving truck disappear and appear a few times before it is replaced with a minivan.
The room was empty and blank for a few moments. In the next moments the walls were painted. Blinds and curtains were added to the window.
The camera moves more left so we now see the corner of the room, and none of the window. The frame of a crib appears in the corner. Then the mattress, sheets ,and mobile. Baby toys appear inside and outside the crib on the floor, like balls and rattles, toy keys, and pianos. Then a throw blanket with a figure wearing a helmet with a the words Mega Fighters show up draped on the bed.
The baby toys get replaced with action figures, toy cars and building blocks. The crib is replaced with a twin sized bed and the camera eases significantly more to the left revealing the wall opposite of the window.
On this side we see a single Mega Fighters poster, a shelf with toys on it and tick marks on the door frame approximately 4 ft high.
More Mega Fighters posters begin to appear on the walls. The room becomes a mess with toys and items like toy swords, nunchakus and karate out fits and yellow belts.
Some toys make way for a handheld gaming console and the games for it. The yellow belt turns orange then green. All while tick marks grow up the side of the door frame.
The camera eases left more to reveal the closet. The wall is almost full of Mega Fighter posters and the floor almost filled with clothes and props and weapons from Mega Fighters.
The clothes in his closet get bigger and longer. Mega fighter merchandise increases.
The camera stops moving.
A Mega fighter poster disappears. Then another and another until al of them are gone. And the clothes and merchandise on the floor disappear one by one until the floor on that side is clean.
The camera eases left and back to reveal the entire room facing the window. While more mega fighter things disappear, except one mega fighter backpack leaning against the window the camera starts to move towards the window.
More items start to disappear in the room. His games clothes, shelf, and bed. Until nothing is left in the room except the lone backpack against the window that we are now looking at.

The Mega Fighters backpack is the last to disappear, and a few moments pass and appears another moving truck.
